Over the last 5 days our water temperature on lake tawakoni has warmed over 8 degrees. When that happens it can make for some of the best shallow water cat fishing anywhere.
Yesterday, we boated almost 300lbs of blue cats in less than 5ft of water. Fish were up in the shallows taking advantage of warmer water conditions. Gizzard shad cut in large pieces were the ticket...fished under a Santee Cooper rig was the ticket.
February is a roller coaster month. We will see warmer and cooler water temps, however overall it is STILL my favorite month to fish for the big fish. Females have more eggs, are heavier and the chances of catching a 100lb fish are better than ever.
As we roll into mid to late February we will see a big rise in lake temps and we will be catching more and more easting sized blue catfish mixed in w/ very large fish. I like this because the trip is almost non-stop fish catching and you still manage sever big fish on most of these trips.
